Remy's 20th Birthday!
Well, "The Remy" turns 20 years old tomorrow and we're all very thankful
that he's still with us. I tell you the truth when I say it is nothing
short of a miracle that he survived the accident and is slowly
recovering. It was a very distressing time in July when we received
that call that Remy was injured and that is was paramount for us to be
at his side. Thankfully his mom, Kerry, has been by his side since day
1 to take care of him and comfort him and speak for him when he needs
something. We're also thankful for our family and his friends for
assisting with his recovery by coming out to visit and pray for him.
Everyday we see some improvement, however little it may be, and we're
confident that he'll have a decent recovery. But as the medical team
say, it takes time and it's not prudent to try an establish a time line
and that recovery will happen according to how Remy heals and how well
he responds to the various therapies he receives. If anyone can
recommend any good VAST or AAC programs or applications for his
Playbook, it would be great to hear from you.
We encourage all of his family and friends to post Happy Birthday wishes
as comments on this blog and we'll make sure that he reads them.

Here are some recent developments. Remy likes to play tic tac toe on
his playbook, he also likes to cheat so keep your eyes on him at all
times. He has a spelling board that he uses to communicate, most words
he spells out relate to some food that he wishes he can eat like chilli,
celery, popsicles, fudgesicles, soup, cheese, cheese and crackers, bread
and butter pickles etc etc. Just remember not to feed him as his tongue
and swallowing is not as developed as it should be. If in doubt ask his
mom as she's the big boss when it comes to his daily affairs. Last
weekend Remy managed to break his bed because it was too short, Kerry
and I managed to accidently break his wheel chair while taking him for a
stroll to see the Grey Cup parade, and then during the wee morning hours
Remy accidentally kicked out a hospital window. Don't ask me how he did
that but he does have long legs. Be careful around Remy as he is known
to kick if he gets really upset or agitated. Sometimes it's a product
of the injury and sometimes the medications conflict with each other and
he gets very unsettled and things get squirrely.
As you can see from the photos he has come a long way since the accident
but the road to his recovery is still long, however with your continued
support, love, and well wishes and prayers, Remy will bounce back and be
able to enjoy life outside the hospital once again. Cheers

Here's a painting that Remy's sister Alanna has done for him. I think it's really captures the essence of Remy.
Here's Remy enjoying a laugh with his mom and the ladies at the hospital in Newmarket helping Remy to relearn walking again.
Keep Remy in your prayers. Love Daddy Bear. Cheers
