Many Thanks and Remy's In Room Phone

Hi all, many thanks to all the friends that have been visiting Remy.  It is so nice that you all go and visit Remy.  Your being there with him picks up his spirits so much it's truly incredible.  We appreciate all of you that visit.  If you want you can post comments on the blog about your visit and hopefully some pictures of your visit too.  Or you can send them to me and I'll gladly post them in a separate entry in the blog.

My dad hooked up the tv and a phone came with it so if  you want to call and say hi to Remy here's what you do:  Call (905) 895-4521, and then the extension 4076 . This will get you to Remy's room.  I'm not sure if there's voice mail on the line.  If there's no answer they're probably just on a walk about inside the hospital in Remy's "wheels".

Here's Remy at his Baptism with his God-father Marty Miceli at the Catholic church in Petawawa Ontario.  Remy was a chubby baby, when he was born, if my memory serves me correctly he weighed in at 9 pounds 13 oz.  He was a biggin.

Remy took a few steps the other day and was even able to stand for short period too.  We're so proud of Remy and how he's progressed since the accident.  It's truly incredible.

Remy's birthday is coming up on Friday, 30 November.  He'll be 20 years old, a big milestone as he'll no longer be a teenager.  I was thinking that if some of his friends could surprise him with a birthday rap song video that would be awesome.  You could just upload it to youtube and send the link to Remy or post it here or send the link to me or his mother by email.  It would be nice if everyone could see it.  Just remember that his grandparents would be seeing it too, so you'd have to go easy on the foul language eh.

Here's a pic of Remy rockin out Gangsta style with his/mine Black Beauty Epiphone Les Paul.  Lookin forward to hearing him play that again.

Cheers and God bless

Remy Needs His Friends and Visitors

Remy has been doing very good lately.  Everyday we see some form of improvement regardless of how little it may be.  Kerry had a meeting with the hospital staff recently regarding Remy's continued care and rehabilitation and with that we have our highs and lows.  Remy has what is called Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), they call it this because it was acquired after birth and not a result of a genetic disposition but rather acquired because of a vehicle accident.

The medical team has been great and they continue to do wonderful treatment for Remy to improve his health, rehabilitate him and reinvigorate him.  They did mention that there is one area that Remy needs that they can't provide but is essential for Remy's continued well being and vitally conducive to the overall restoration of his mind and body.  What we're getting at is that he needs his friends and all the visitors he can get.  When you visit it gives Remy hope that he'll one day be strong enough to get out of that bed and join you on a walk or clubbing.  It gives him the motivation to start talking again, it gives him the kind of stimulation and excitement that his brain needs to rewire itself and using his mind to process thoughts again like he used to.  Remy needs your help and your stimulation to give him more motivation to assist with his recovery.

They also mentioned that we should encourage him with things that he liked to do, one being rapping.  With this in mind, we could do a lot for Remy if you could email me any videos you have of Remy and his friends rapping.  We could transfer those videos to his tablet and he could watch them.  This would encourage him to talk and use his mind for complex thought because he liked to freestyle.  The videos don't just have to be of him rapping, they should also be of his friends rapping too because this would help stimulate his mind and his memories.  My email is rejean.michel@gmail.com .

If you can't come for a visit as much as you'd like, then you can send me an email with your well wishes and funny stories and either myself or his mom will read it to him and save it in a book for when he can read on his own.  This will let him know that you're still with him and that you care.  The letters that are read to him will stimulate his mind and his brain and do him some good.  The get well cards you all send are awesome, we thank you for keeping Remy in your thoughts.

Here's a picture of Remy and couple of chums from Prince of Peace Elementary School at CFB Borden during a show called Pop Idol.  I think it was Remy's first time rapping in front of a live audience.  He's the one on the far left.

Remy Officially Not in a Coma

Hi there, the doctors cleared up a misconception that we had, well mostly me, Remy is technically not in a coma.  I guess it should have been obvious to me that because Remy can communicate by using hand gestures and sounds it shows that he can understand what is going on that he's not in a coma.  I thought that since he can't talk or walk  or do a lot of things that we take for granted that he was still in a coma.

Here's Remy and I doing the "OK" sign on Thanksgiving weekend.

Remy is an awesome son and we marvel everyday on the progress that he is making.  Once again, thank-you to the steady stream of friends that visit him.  Everyone that visits Remy is contributing to his well being and his recovery.  He knows who all you are and he is grateful that you still come out and show that you care.  Care and Love are two of the best things that friends bring to him and help with his recovery.  As long as you come by and pay Remy a visit even if only for a half hour it will help Remy with his recovery.   He will feel the power that you bring and you will brighten up his spirit and his will to get better and get out of that bed.  I didn't know that Remy had so many friends, but what I do know is that you're all special to Remy and both I and his mom Kerry thank you so much for coming out to spend time with Remy.  When you do visit, don't be shy, if you want a hug from Remy all you have to do is ask, he can hear every word you say and he can understand everything, he likes jokes too so bring all your funny stories to tell him, it's all good for him.

Here's Remy and some of the girls that came by for a visit.  Remy is so lucky to have friends like you all.

It was a good Thanksgiving weekend for sure.  Remy likes to have his feet massaged and his legs stretched, so if you come by for a visit don't be shy.  Remy has a bit of the restless leg going on so all the foot rubs and leg stretches help him out immensely.

I got Remy a new fishing hat, here's a pic of the two of us wearing them.  There's also a picture of Remy with the girls wearing the army hats, so if you're reading this please send us a copy and or post it on this blog ok.

In closing, I'd like to end with a funny little spin similar to the most interesting man in the world commercials:

Even though they let him have flowers he chooses not to out of respect for other patients, ..... Remy Michel is the coolest man in the hospital.
